The Anomaly Dimension and Position System (ADAPS) is a standardized system for reporting the size and position of anomalies on the pipeline. Implementing ADAPS ensures all anomalies, regardless of type or detection method, are reported with the necessary dimension and location information (i.e. length, width, depth, orientation) for that specific type of anomaly. For example, wall loss is reported by percent of wall loss, and dents by percent of outside diameter, versus the multitude of measurements possible. Position information such as orientation, which can be reported by inches from top dead center, degrees, or O’clock positions, are normalized to the same format to facilitate easy correlation and comparison. Many low resolution ILI survey logs and most conventional paper logs lack many of the required parameters to fully size and position an anomaly with ADAPS, therefore requiring a re-analysis of the survey log in greater detail.
